Island Vibes – Tropical Touches for the Maui Groom and Groomsmen

5 Ways to Add Tropical Flair for the Men in Your Wedding Party

Planning a Maui wedding? While the lush island scenery sets the perfect romantic tone, don’t let the groomsmen’s style get lost in the tropical waves. Adding a vibrant island-inspired touch to your groom’s and groomsmen’s looks can elevate your wedding theme while letting the guys have their own taste of paradise.

Here are some inspired ways to weave those tropical vibes into the men’s wedding attire:

1. Tropical Print Suit Lining

Imagine the groom slipping on his suit, revealing an unexpected tropical print lining inside the jacket. Whether it’s lush green palms or vibrant hibiscus flowers, this subtle yet striking detail can tie the look to your Maui setting while giving a touch of personality.  Indochino is a favorite for this special touch.

2. Tropical-Patterned Ties & Socks

For a hint of island fun, accessorize with tropical print ties and matching socks. These add pops of color that feel fresh and playful, perfect for the sun-drenched Maui vibe. Plus, they make for great photo moments that capture the spirit of the day.

3. Tropical Print or Island-Style Shirts for Groomsmen

If your wedding is leaning toward a more relaxed vibe, embrace the laid-back island aesthetic with light weight, Island-style linen shirts or spunky tropical prints.  Think classic Tommy Bahama-inspired shirts for the groomsmen or the vibrance of Maui’s Billy Aloha shirts. Picture crisp white or shirts with vibrant tropical patterns—perfect for staying cool while looking effortlessly stylish.

4. Mini Pineapple Boutonniere

Add a charming and unique twist to the traditional boutonniere with a mini pineapple detail. It’s a small nod to the tropics that will turn heads and spark smiles. You can carry the theme further by incorporating a mini pineapple in the bridal bouquet, creating a cohesive and whimsical detail for your Maui wedding.

5. Leis and Wooden Accessories

For a bold yet refined island look, incorporate kukui nut leis into the groomsmen’s attire. These traditional Hawaiian leis, crafted from glossy black or brown nuts, add a natural and distinctive touch that perfectly complements the Maui vibes. Pair them with stylish wooden-framed sunglasses and watches with wooden bands to enhance the tropical aesthetic. These accessories exude a blend of sophistication and rustic charm, tying the entire outfit together and reflecting the spirit of Hawaii’s rich culture and natural beauty.
Not only are these elements a nod to island tradition, but they’re also perfect gift for your groomsmen and will make for photos that capture the relaxed elegance of your Maui wedding. The groom and groomsmen will look polished and effortlessly connected to the tropical surroundings.

Let’s not forget—the groom deserves to shine just as brightly as the bride! These tropical touches ensure the entire wedding party reflects the beauty and charm of your Maui destination wedding.

You’re Engaged! Now what???

He popped the question…and you said “YES”!!!  CONGRATULATIONS!  Once the rush of joy simmers down (just a tad) you may be thinking, “what do I do now?”  There’s so much to do and you’ve never done this before, right?  Relax, we’re here to help you navigate this most amazing, surreal, romantic time in your life.   Here’s what to do after you get engaged.

TELL YOUR FAMILY & BESTIES

Before you post the ring selfie, let your closest friends and family in on the news.  We recommend taking a few days to bask in the glow of your proposal before bringing anyone else to the party.  Once you let the cat out of the bag, you’ll likely be bombarded with excited congrats as well as lots of advice, like it or not.

ANNOUNCE IT TO THE WORLD

Go ahead and splurge with a lovely manicure….after all you want your hands to look their best when showing off your gorgeous engagement ring!  Don’t forget to include a sweet photo (or more) of the two of you.  Whether you choose to post photos only or share your love story with words is up to you.  Either way, expect to get a LOT of messages, comment, texts and calls.  This is a whirlwind of love and excitement.  Enjoy it.

BRAINSTORM BEFORE JUMPING IN

I know it will be really hard to hold back, but take a little break and brainstorm before jumping right into wedding planning.  Whether you’ve been dreaming about (ehem, planning) your wedding since you were a little girl or never really gave it any thought, you’ll want to explore what the you of today, and your fiancé would like your wedding day to feel like.

Hometown celebration, destination wedding or intimate elopement or something in between?  The possibilities are limited only by your imagination (and budget).  Once you know what town, island or country you want to say your “I DO” in, then let’s jump in and get started!

DECIDE ON YOUR BRIDAL PARTY

Will you have bridesmaids and groomsmen?  Best friends and family members are the most common selections for a bridal party, but how many?  That’s totally up to you and your sweetie to decide – and no, you don’t have to choose the same number of attendants.  When you have finalized your list, each of you can plan a get together to pop the question to your bridesmaids and groomsmen.  Not traditional?  No problem, more and more modern couples are choosing to skip the official wedding party all together.

CHOOSE YOUR WEDDING DATE AND VENUE

These two tasks go hand-in-hand, because the venue of your dreams may not be available for your preferred wedding date. This is a great time to explore flexibility!  You may need to compromise on date in order to get the venue you prefer OR, you may choose between a few potential venues based upon their availability of your chosen wedding date.  If you are beginning planning early enough then the chance of your favorite venue being available for your chosen wedding date is very good!  If you are wanting to get married sooner, then we cross our fingers (and toes) that the stars will align in your favor on both date and location.  Keep in mind, if you’ve chosen a “popular” wedding date such as special numbers (5-25-25 for instance) then the earlier you start, the more likely your date will be available.  Not sure how to even begin locating your dream wedding venue?  Read on for more tips…

HIRE A WEDDING PLANNER

Planning a Destination Wedding?  Do yourself a favor and hire a local (to the area) wedding planner to guide you and help make your wedding dreams come true.  Their expertise, vendor relations and wealth of knowledge of all things wedding will be a blessing to a frazzled, busy bride-to-be.  Worried about how that will affect your budget?  You’re not alone…but all of our past clients swear having a professional planner by their side throughout the process and seeing them through the wedding day was worth every penny and more!

Frannie & Mac’s Moody Tropical Olowalu Wedding

Tropical Moodiness – Frannie & Mac’s Stunning Maui Wedding

Today, we’re diving into the beautiful celebration of Frannie & Mac at the Olowalu Plantation House, a wedding that was nothing short of magical.

A Heartwarming Ceremony

On a picture-perfect day, we were honored to help Frannie & Mac tie the knot in the stunning setting of the Olowalu Plantation House.  From the scenic backdrop to the intimate touches, every detail of their special day was a testament to their unique love story and vibrant personalities.

One of the standout moments of the ceremony was the adorable participation of Pachi, the couple’s beloved rescue dog. Having been a survivor of the Maui fires, Pachi’s journey to this joyous occasion was truly heartwarming. Pachi, couldn’t contain his excitement as he practically dragged his handler down the aisle to greet Mac. His joyful energy brought smiles to everyone’s faces. And let’s not forget their dignified older dog, Strider, who also played a significant role in the ceremony, acting with dignity and loyalty.

Spectacular Decor and Personal Touches

Their ceremony arch was a masterpiece – a rustic wooden arch adorned with large tropical floral arrangements and a braided ti leaf curtain.  At the head of the aisle – custom-made wooden columns with vibrant tropical arrangements added to the spectacular beauty. These columns later flanked the sweetheart table at the reception, making the transition seamless.

Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed fun Lawn games and comfy lounge seating on the lawn overlooking the ocean and islands off-shore. The reception was filled with personal touches that truly reflected the couple’s bond. Custom cookies adorned with likenesses of their three dogs (their third pup, Bruce was unable to attend the wedding) were a delightful feature at the dessert bar, while napkins printed with playful messages—”drinks on us” and “sweets on us”—added a personal touch to the bar and dessert station.

Tropical Moody Vibes

Embracing a “tropical moody” theme, the wedding decor was a stunning blend of deep, lush greens, vibrant tropical oranges, and crisp whites, enhanced by dramatic black elements. A life-size black acrylic seating chart, black charger plates over green woven place mats, and dark vessels for the floral arrangements created a moody yet elegant ambiance. Colored water goblets in amber and deep green added a pop of color, enhancing the beauty of the table settings.

As the sun set, the sky lit up in a palette of oranges, corals, and peaches, perfectly complementing the day’s color scheme. A special highlight was the cake topper, a thoughtful surprise from the bride’s parents. Crafted in spun glass, it featured a scuba diver and a spear fisherman, symbolizing how Frannie and Mac met. Frannie, a scuba instructor in Lahaina, first met Mac on a diving tour, and their love story blossomed from there, eventually leading Mac to Maui to be close to his bride.

An Evening to Remember

The evening was filled with unforgettable moments captured beautifully by our talented photographer, Amber. The celebration kicked off with a touching first dance, followed by a dance of the couple with Mac’s young sons, setting the stage for a lively dance floor. Heartfelt toasts brought the celebration to a close, leaving everyone with warm memories of a day filled with love, laughter, and joy.

Stay tuned for more beautiful celebrations and stories from our wedding planning adventures!

Yoori & John’s Laughter-Filled Maui Pineapple Chapel Wedding

Yoori + John’s fun celebration at the Maui Pineapple Chapel in Kapalua

Planning a destination wedding can be as thrilling as it is challenging, but when all the pieces come together, the result is pure magic. Such was the case for Yoori and John, whose dream wedding at the Pineapple Chapel in Kapalua, Maui, was an event to remember.

Yoori and John’s journey to their wedding day was a testament to patience and resilience. Originally scheduled to take place before the pandemic, their wedding was postponed several times. Ultimately, they had to find a new location when their first choice stopped holding events. They chose the picturesque Pineapple Chapel, and the Mau’u Terrace for their ceremony and cocktail hour. With stunning ocean views, the terrace provided a serene and romantic backdrop for their vows.

Yoori wore a breathtaking vintage-inspired beaded gown that sparkled with elegance and timeless beauty. Her dress set the tone for an event filled with love, joy, and laughter. The ceremony was a heartfelt exchange of vows, witnessed by family and friends who had traveled from near and far to celebrate with them. Adding to the joy, a group of their friends surprised them with a fun presentation during the ceremony, causing lots of laughter and making the day even more memorable.

Following the ceremony, guests were treated to a cocktail hour with fresh coconuts being opened on the spot and lawn games to keep everyone entertained. Marvin Tevaga’s Hawaiian music provided the perfect soundtrack to this picturesque moment.

The reception took place on the Makai Lawn under a white-topped tent adorned with a cluster of rattan lanterns over the dance floor. This chic setup created an inviting atmosphere for a night of celebration. The DJ kept the energy high, ensuring that the dance floor was never empty.

Yoori and John added personal touches that made their wedding uniquely theirs. Two specialty drinks, named after their beloved pets Lotto and Tails, were a hit with the guests. These custom cocktails were a fun and memorable way to incorporate their furry family members into the festivities.  The couple chose to name their tables after places they have visited together that held a special place in their hearts.  Custom table signs, seating chart and welcome sign were created just for them by Tropigal Calligraphy.

Yoori and John’s wedding was not just an event; it was a celebration of love, resilience, and the joy of being surrounded by loved ones. Their story is a beautiful reminder that even in the face of challenges, love finds a way to shine through. If you’re planning a destination wedding in Maui, let Yoori and John’s enchanting day inspire you to create your own unforgettable celebration on Maui.

Yoori had the cutest moment when her dad saw her for the first time, all dressed in her wedding gown and veil.  Matias captured the sweet moment as a reflection in the mirror.  Afterwards, her dad helped her put on her wedding shoes!
